We went to Delta for Labor Day. Sept 2nd was the opening day of the dove hunt. I bought a 12 gauge shotgun a few months ago. I had only shot clay pigeons. I was really excited to try my aim on some doves. Cody and I went out that morning with his brother Jacob and his cousin Phil. The near nude kid in the picture is Phil's son. We found quite a few doves on some BLM land just south of Oak City in fields of sun flowers. We shot a lot of them. We missed just as many as we shot. One of the birds that Cody shot, went down, and then we could not find it. We searched for about 10 minutes and then finally found it hopping around. He had not killed it, just hit its wing. He finished it off by breaking his neck. We hunted most of the morning and then went to Cody's parents' house and cleaned all the birds. Then we headed back to Delta to Cody and Erica's house. Cody took the back road home to watch for a few final doves. We saw two doves land in a bush right by the road. We got out our guns and jumped out each of us on one side of the bush. The birds flew and we each of us shot one. It was really cool to get both doves. Then back at Cody's house we cut the breast meat off the bone. Cody breaded and fried up the breast meat and the hearts. We ate them like chicken nuggets. They were great. I had a great time hanging out with Cody and hunting some doves.
