New Front Door

We needed to change our front door.  It was a little tricky, but we figured it out.  Our house is cinder block with aluminum siding.  The door jams are metal and they are mortared right to the block.

We decided to cut the sides in half and remove them in pieces.

Ray thought it might work to use the pick as a pry bar.

We got the top piece removed and then the bottom half came off really easily.  Thomas loosened it with a pry bar and then pulled it out with his hands.  Then we did the same on the other side and top.

After we got all three of the sides and the threshold removed, we attempted to dry fit the door.  It was a little too tall.  We realized that the cement under the new threshold was higher than the stoop outside.  Thomas took his angle grinder and masonry blade and cut groves in the hump.  He then used his chisel and hammer to remove the excess amount of cement.

After the floor was all level the door fit perfectly.  We got started early in the morning and we were finished before lunch.
